Why am I leaving Big Social?First off when I refer to “Big Social” I am talking about Face Book, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Companies that started out in support of free speech and self expression but are more and more focusing on controlling the conversation and even determining what the topics will be.I am very tried of their using there market dominance to shoving their agenda in my face. “Following” your friends is nearly pointless as you mostly get their content, not your friend’s. I’m also tired of them abusing my data and selling it. I’m not saying these other options are perfect, but they are better in many ways.What I am using for..Mastodon is the most like FB. I am using it to share bits of my life and keep up on topics of interest.BlueSky is more like twitter, short texts with limited options. I mostly follow here as many groups I used to follow on FB have left FB and are now on BlueSkyReddit obviously not new, or small. But they do take privacy more seriously than others. I mostly use it for seeing what other’s view are on a variety of topics and for getting/sharing advice.WeMe, is the latests alt-social I have started checking out. I’m still figuring out where/if it fits into my life.If you know of other open, private & secure alt-social that you like please let me know about them.
